About JABEZ Youth Foundation

In the summer of 2006, Kenneth “Uncle Ken” Pinto assembled a group of individuals interested in helping the youth of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and surrounding areas. As a ministry team, this group of individuals worked together to incorporate JABEZ Youth Foundation, Inc in November of 2006.
JABEZ Youth Foundation has worked for the past 15 years mentoring, tutoring, providing meals, scholarships, and opportunities to some under-served youth of Cumberland County, NC, and their families. In 2011, JABEZ began working within schools to assist the youth with homework, mentoring, sports, music and arts programs, and children’s Bible study. In 2016, JABEZ volunteers worked with students at Elizabeth Cashwell Elementary and Walker Spivey Elementary. Both these schools serve some of the most under-served school students in Cumberland county. Nationally, homicide has become the leading cause of death among black people between the ages of 10 and 24, according to a report released by the US Centers for Disease Control. For every young homicide victim, 126 others in the age bracket suffered nonfatal injuries.

Our Mission

"To affect, especially at-risk youth and families; spiritually, mentally, physically(Academics, Sports, Arts & Social Programs)"
JABEZ provides, to the especially at-risk youth, educational and developmental services through its academic program using one-on-one tutoring to work with the child to test and maintain appropriate-level grades in reading and math. Developmental and educational needs are regarded with the organization’s arts program. Health education, physical fitness, and recreation are provided through the practice of soccer, basketball, and jump rope through the organization’s sports program. Emotional and developmental aspects are catered to the individual student through JABEZ’s mentoring program. All services are provided, free of charge, to the youth being serviced by JABEZ Youth Foundation on a twice weekly basis during the school year at both elementary schools.
While JABEZ Youth Foundation, Inc. focuses on all youth, between 2016 and 2021, we have seen tremendous breakthroughs in the community while working with the younger students (ages four to nine). At risk students are adolescents who are less likely to transition successfully into adulthood and achieve economic self-sufficiency (Merriam-Webster, 2016). We believe that early intervention will certainly instill a knowledge and love of Christ, academics, mentoring, arts, and sports that will give the young student more options and knowledge that will aid the student through his/her youth as well as when he/she reaches adulthood. For the 2021 school year, JABEZ volunteers will serve the youth, family, and administration at three different Cumberland County Schools and a recreational center. We are currently servicing more than 200 at-risk students weekly. Additional students will be mentored and tutored on weekends through JABEZ’s Sunday Fun Day program. JABEZ also focuses on youth with aspects of becoming at-risk, to include the following:
  • Socio-economic status
  • Environmental cues
  • The need of mentoring (lack of father figures or positive role models)
  • The need of tutoring (math and reading difficulties, poor grades or learning disabilities)
